Environmental Site Assessments

Environmental Site Assessments (ESA's) document known and potential site conditions that may affect property value or cause undue liability to investors. Throughout Australian cities and rural areas the urban development, changing land use patterns and revised legislation require involved property owners and stakeholders in property re-development to carefully assess the suitability of sites for a proposed end-use. Without expert advice, uncertainty associated with contaminated land issues can frustrate sound business decision-making. There are four stages of environmental site assessments undertaken by E3.

1. Stage I - Preliminary Site Investigation: Involves desktop research and historical investigations to ascertain the likelihood of contamination (non-intrusive). Intrusive sampling may be undertaken at judgemental locations.

2. Stage II - Detailed Site Investigation: Involves designing a sampling and analysis program to identify contamination, delineate contamination and conduct risk assessments against human health and ecological criteria.

3. Stage III - Site Management Plan: Involves documentation of the objectives of remediation, the extent of remediation required and the remediation methods proposed
to protect human health and the surrounding environment.

4. Stage IV - Remediation and Remediation Validation: Involves sampling and analysis at the site to demonstrate successful remediation of contamination in accordance with the objectives in the Site Management or Remediation Action Plan. ESA's assist in establishing liabilities for investors and provide a sensible approach to the adoption of sound safe work practices.

Environmental Management System Design, Review and Implemenation

Maintaining and improving the quality of the environment and protecting human health is gaining increasing priority in the day to day operations of various organisations. In addition, the environmental performance of an organisation is of increasing importance to internal and external stakeholders.

E3 can assist clients in achieving sound environmental performance through a systematic approach of continual improvement of environmental management systems (EMS).

By implementing an EMS a company is able to anticipate and meet growing environmental expectations and to ensure ongoing compliance with national and international requirements as part of a continual improvement process.

Environmental Management Plan Design Review and Implementation

The objective of an EMP is to ensure that environmental commitments are identified and implemented in the project. An EMP also enables the client to audit the project to ensure that the environmental commitments made in the SEE, REF or EIS are being implemented.

An EMP provides day-to-day environmental management of a site. It outlines management objectives, strategies, tasks, practices and procedures, performance indicators, monitoring and auditing required to ensure that potential adverse impacts are minimised from the proposed construction works.

We are able to assist organisations in the preparation of Environmental Management Plans (EMP) to ensure effective implementation and maintenance of environmental safeguards for various projects.

Waste management and Landfill Design

The E3 team includes, project managers, engineers, scientists and technical specialists with extensive experience in the waste management industry and an understanding of technological advances in waste recovery and management. Our staff have first-hand experience working in the waste management industry that enables us to deliver realistic and pragmatic solutions to our clients.

E3 is able to design waste management plans to meet the environmental and corporate requirements of all levels of government, industry guidelines and project specific outcomes. Our emphasis is on meeting waste reduction targets to achieve overall economic objectives and fulfilling statutory requirements.

A critical aspect of the waste management process is the formulation of Landfill Environmental Management Plans to control potential threats to human health and the environment. This is especially so at sensitive sites such as those close to receiving waterways or residential areas. E3 has prepared EMPs for a wide range of waste management and waste transfer facilities, covering aspects such as:

  • Landfill design;
  • Synthetic liner design;
  • Liner construction supervision & QA;
  • Landfill gas control, recovery, design & O&M;
  • Compliance monitoring;
  • Waste auditing;
  • Rehabilitation plans;
  • Site redevelopment plans;
  • Leachate collection system design
  • Stormwater and runoff management;
  • Leachate control;
  • Dust and sediment control;
  • Odour minimisation;
  • Regional waste management plans;
  • Site selection studies;
  • Site master plans;
  • Economic analysis;

They are an important step for company management to demonstrate due diligence and manage environmental risks and liability.

The E3 environmental management team can undertake a range of audits for a variety of industry including:

  • Phase One “Due Diligence” Audits
  • Compliance Audits
  • Environmental Management Audits
  • Environmental Management Systems Audits
